AYAW pa ring magsalita si Nina hinggil sa love life niya. Nasabi niya nang nakausap namin siya sa taping ng Idol Ko si Kap na close friend lang niya si Nyoy Volante, ang napapabalitang boyfriend daw niya. Kahit pa ang naunang natsismis sa kanyang si Jimmy Bondoc ay close friend lang daw ni-ya.
 
Anyway, musical ang Idol ngayong gabi. Bukod kay Nina ay panauhin din ang Rivermaya, Cueshe, MYMP at Sponge Cola. Mali-link si Nina kina Bong Revilla at Antonio Aquitania. Maganda kasi siya. Tuloy pagseselosan siya nina Rufa Mae Quinto at Kay Brosas.

NAGPAUNLAK ng interview si Nina nang mag-guest sa Idol Ko si Kap kamakailan.
 
Sabi niya, 'di sila nagkaroon ng relasyon ni Jimmy Bondoc. Kahit daw si Nyoy Volante ay 'di niya naka-on.
 
"Wala pa akong nakakarelasyong singer. Close friends ko lang sina Jimmy at Nyoy," paglilinaw ni Nina.
 
Hindi kami makapaniwala sa sinabi ng Soul Siren. Nakausap kasi namin noon si Jimmy sa taping ng Magpakailanman at inamin nitong naging mag-sweethearts  nga sila.
 
Anyway, bahala na si Nina kung idinedenay man niya. Bukod sa kanya,  guest din sa musical episode ng IKSK ang Rivermaya, Cueshe, MYMP at Sponge Cola.

SINGER Nina has clarified that she cut cleanly from S.O.P. before moving to its rival show, A.S.A.P.

"It was my manager's decision since she felt that there wasn't enough room for me in S.O.P. But we explained our side to the management and they got our point. So there's no truth to all the talks that I left without formality and all," Nina explained.

 
The soul siren also shrugged off rumors that she had become big-headed.

"My family and friends from way back can attest to the fact that I haven't changed," she said. "All that has changed is my schedule. I just happen to be busier now. But every chance I get I spend with them."

I take her word for it because even with newfound friends like me, Nina seems so unaffected by her fame. What's more when she's dealing with her old friends? Although her songs are so heartfelt, she claims that her love life is zero at the moment.

"Romance has to wait for now," she declared.

When teased about Jimmy Bondoc Nina only laughed loudly and said, "We never had anything in the first place. Work just brought us real close. If I had my way I'd rather have a boyfriend who's not a musician so our different worlds would merge. But when love hits naman, it's beyond our control who we fall for."

With all the fans falling for her music, success has gone out-of-control for Nina!

Eto pa o, bout Nina Live
THERE'S been no escaping Nina for the past three years. Ever since she debuted on the scene, the so-called "Soul Siren" has been appearing here, there and everywhere. And, with the recent triple-platinum success of her "Nina Live!" album, it looks like we'll be hearing and seeing even more of her!

Covers
This collection of live covers is the singer's third record, and its success is a testament to Nina's popularity--but not, we must say, to her talent. If anything, this non-studio-embellished album shows us that the singer still has a long way to go before she can qualify as a major diva.

Sure, there's been a great deal of hype about her for some time now, but hype does not necessarily indicate the existence of eat-you-heart-out talent.

Hype is just hype, and we're sorry to say that Nina does not live up to hers--and we base this conclusion on several hours of listening to her live compilation.

Going unplugged is one of the best ways to measure

a singer's worth, after all, inasmuch as studio equipment can cover up a multitude of "sins."

Not that Nina has a large number of failings--but the few that she does have are rather conspicuous.

The biggest of these is her distressing tendency to go out of tune. You can forgive your six-year-old sister for not hitting the right notes, but not someone who's being touted as a diva. Singing in tune is the least one expects from professional singers, after all.

Direction
Another thing we don't particularly like is her joining the birit-style [high-pitched] school of singing. It doesn't approach eardrum-shattering Regine Velasquez levels yet, but she seems to be leaning in that direction. Unfortunately, her voice has a thin and forced quality--and it makes for painful listening.

Nina, in this album at least, has a knack for leaching the vitality out of her material. Take carrier single, "Love Moves in Mysterious Ways," for example. A dulled-down version of the Julia Fordham original, it's uninventive and soporific-a state of things brought about by the lack of dynamism in Nina's rendering.

Then again, it hit No. 1-so maybe it's just us! Have a listen at the material, and judge for yourself.

As for us, we won't be listening to Nina's music until she starts showing a little more of the soul she's supposed to have in spades.

Other songs in the 19-track "Nina Live!" collection include Celine Dion's "I Love You Goodbye," Chaka Khan's "Through the Fire," Jennifer Love Hewitt's "Cool With You," Aaliyah's "At Your Best," Brenda Russel's "Piano in the Dark," Gloria Estefan's "Anything for You," and the Eagles' "I Can't Tell You Why."

Acoustic singer Jimmy Bondoc and soul siren Nina's contradicting statements about the real score between them is nothing really new in show business.


Others before them have done the same only to eat their words back once the romance is over.


In previous interviews, Nina strongly denied that there is (and ever was) anything romantic between her and Jimmy.

Jimmy, meanwhile, is more honest and vocal about his feelings for Nina. During the recent launching of his 10-track album, "Musikero," under BMG Records, he dedicated the cut, "Kung Makikinig Ka Lang," to King's younger sister, saying that whenever she's in doubt (of his love), Nina should only believe in his words.


Nina, who was among Jimmy's "friends" (the two others were Bobby Yan and Bituin Escalante) tasked to read the lyrics of each song he performed that night, seemed flattered and thrilled. She didn't have the guts to refute Jimmy's statements then.


Meanwhile, how true is it that Nina and Jimmy's smooth-sailing relationship suffered a dent with the entry of a Viva Hot Babe?


But as Jimmy assured Nina that night, he doesn't go for bold stars.


In fact, before the night was over, Jimmy mouthed yet another intriguing line on stage: "Love you, Nina!"


Oh, well... "friends" do say "I love you" to each other, don't they?
