Sarah G. fans protest Nina’s Diamond award

Although Pop Star Sarah Geronimo refuses to be dragged into the Diamond Record Award issue with Soul Siren Nina, some of the former’s fans protest the latter getting the award ahead of their idol.

Nina was recently given Diamond Record recognition after her “Nina Live!” album sold more than 200,000 units. She's the first female singer to be given such a distinction in the local recording scene.

Years ago, balladeer Jose Mari Chan and rock group Eraserheads were given the same honor by virtue of their multiple platinum recordings.

To most of the Pop Star's fans and supporters, however, Sarah deserves the award more than the Soul Siren.

Sarah fanatics claim that long before Nina sold 200,000 units sold, the Pop Star has already achieved the same number of sales in a shorter period of time.

They say that because this is so, Sarah should be the first Filipina to be given the Diamond Award recognition, and not Nina.

A Manila Bulletin Entertainment Online report that came out on Oct. 21 quoted a Philippine Association of the Recording Industry (PARI) representative that hypothetically, any artist whose recount of album sales reaches 200,000, may get a Diamond Record Award.   

That report used as an example, Aiza Seguerra who garnered a Quintuple (five times) Platinum award for selling at least 200,000 copies of her “Pagdating ng Panahon” album in 2001.

In an interview, Sarah said that to her, it is a non-issue.

"Ganoon po talaga. May kanya-kanya tayong achievements. Ako, happy na ako na nagpa-Platinum ang mga album ko. Napakahirap ng buhay ngayon. Malaking pasasalamat na 'yon. Hindi kailangang maging Diamond pa 'yan. Okay na 'yon," said she.

Sarah also shrugged off Claudine Barretto's choice of co-star in a movie she will do with Viva Films.

Claudine, who has just signed up for a two picture movie contract with the film outfit, has expressed interest in working with Anne Curtis.

Again, Sarah fanatics took it to mean that Claudine doesn’t like their idol because she [Sarah] wasn’t even considered by the award-winning actress. 

 "Hayaan na natin 'yon. Minsan talaga, mas nagre-react ang mga supporters natin," Sarah said on the matter.

What excites the Pop Star these days is the prospect of doing a movie opposite the young superstar Judy Ann Santos. This is the first time that the two accomplished stars will be working together in a project.

"Siyempre, nandiyan ang pressure na makakasama mo sa isang pelikula ang isang drama princess na si Judy Ann Santos," Sarah said.

I can still remember the time that ASAP awarded nina 6x platinum for selling more than 180,000 units few years ago...that was the time when an opm artist will be awarded a platinum certification if his/her album has sold at least 30,000 units...if i am not mistaken, it was the same time when nina launched at ASAP her nina self titled album...c rica peralejo yung host and she was really amazed with the sales of nina-live...inuulit pa nga nya na sobrang daming zeros na daw ng figure kasi more than 180,000...and to think that was year 2006...so that means na more than that pa ang nabenta ng nina live kasi 2009 na nung naaward ang diamond award ng nina live...and one more thing, if you search it in wikipedia, it was clearly stated there na nina live has sold more than 300,000 units compare to sarah g. which has sold 210,000 plus units...it is a given fact that wikipedia is an open source website but it is proven to be reliable...you can alter the information there if you have support to your claim...few months ago, someone has tried to replace nina live to jaya's album but failed to do it because he/she didn't have enough evidences to support the claim...i know these things because i study open source sites and it so happen na wikipedia yung inatupag ko...anyway, without wikipedia, we can still validate the claim na nina live deserves to be given that diamond award...kung nanonood talaga kayo ng television, ASAP itself can testify that Nina is the first opm female who made it to the diamond certification...ilang beses na nila inawardan ang nina-live so they really keep track of the sales of the said album...the award given to NINA is truly certified by PARI...hindi naman cguro bobo yung committee para hindi rin bigyan yung ibang artist na umabot din ng diamond award...if sarah geronimo, regine velasquez and jaya deserve a diamond award eh wala naman sigurong dahilan ang PARI para hindi sila bigyan sila ng award...sila pa na talagang mga haligi ng musikang pilipino...kulang pa talaga yung benta ng mga album nila para umabot ng platinum...as simple as that...they have to show the figure first para mabigyan ng diamond award...and yung fans at writers eh dapat magbasa at magreseach at di lang putak ng putak ng walang katuturan at kongkretiong ebidensya...

Nina is truly the diamond soul siren!

i know that srah g. is also so proud of you. she's very vocal of saying na idol ka niya. imagine, coming from sarah that's really flattering.
well, sometimes you really can't get away with fans though. just like with you nina if we know you also deserve something we'll definitely fight for it as well.
i have high respect for sarah & aiza & jaya.. as well as regine & lani -- filipina singers who also deserve such recognition. but that will never lessen the pride you have instilled in us. love yah nina!
