Sound Check: NYOY VOLANTE
Nyoy Volante finally gets to work with Nina if only in the video of his latest single "Ha?"
Already airing on music channels, it shows Nyoy playing the nerdy-type of admirer gazing at Nina from a table near hers. Too shy to approach her but wanting her desperately, he fantasizes in hilarious circumstances to be his knight-in-shining armor willing to fight for her ardor.
The video is closest fans could get of a dream tandem at this point between the real life sweethearts. For months, during the recording of their respective new albums, the media had been asking in which album the expected duet would appear. Always, the two would say their label was "thinking over" the possibility. Now that both of their albums are out, we presume that their respective labels did not deem it wise to play up the romance so that their respective solo careers stand on its own, eh?
But at least Nyoy's fourth album is already out still under Vicor Music. For a period, fans were worried that Nyoy's 2004 acoustic album of versions would be his last given some rumored issues with the label.
All water under the bridge now. Nyoy is not only back on the recording scene with "Now Hear This," but with a new management team behind him, Papa Productions, and new band members. These are Steve Gonzalez on guitars, Maynard Albis on drums, Abe Silva on bass and Juliet Perez on violin.
What's the new sound? Spinning through "Now Hear This," we hear less acoustic treatment on songs and more of ones viable in today's band trend. As songwriter, Nyoy has also grown into maturity lyrically. It's something he openly credits Nina for as all in "Hear" are inspired by her.
Other tracks in Nyoy's latest album are "Nandito Lang" (co-written by Nyoy with guitarist Steve), "Kundi Man," "Ayoko Na," "Without You," "You Left Me," "Maghihintay," "Sobra-Sobra," "Baby Stay" and "Ama Namin."
