Nyoy Volante pens a new song for Nina in upcoming album By JOJO P. PANALIGAN
Despite the upsurge of band music in his near two-year absence from the recording scene, acoustic balladeer is confident there still is a market for his latest album due out next month under Vicor Music. "It's no longer a question of genre when it comes to what Filipino music lovers accept or reject," says he during a recent interview. "The bottom line is to give them good materials. Sometimes it's even an advantage to come up with songs that go against the tide as these stand out."
This is the reason that his yet untitled album, though long overdue, is taking time to hit stores. According to Nyoy, he had been tasked by Vicor Music to write new songs as necessary instead of just relying on the bulk he had already penned during his hiatus.
"Which is what I've always liked about Vicor," says he. "They know that more than the recording process, coming up with the right materials is what inadvertently ensures success. They have no problems waiting if they have to. They don't believe in just rushing into things for mere sake of coming up with something."
Among the new titles that have been approved by Vicor for Nyoy's upcoming album are "Nandito Lang," "Baby Stay," "Ayoko Na," "Sobra-sobra" and "Ha;" the last, inspired by his ladylove, Soul Siren Nina.
"It's the nearest we could get to a collaboration at this point," says he of "Ha." "Both our record companies are yet to give a go signal to us to do a duet in either of our albums. But it's okay, we'll just go on with whatever it is they decide on because they know the business of doing records more than we."
At least, Nyoy has songs in Nina's latest release namely "I Need Your Love" and "Someday." The two continue to collaborate on new songs in hopes of coming up with one that's single-material.<http://www.mb.com.ph/ENTR2006082372386.html
