Arrival of overseas workers delayed By Barbara Mae Dacanay, Bureau Chief, with inputs from Estrella Torres, Correspondent

Manila: President Gloria Arroyo issued a statement welcoming some 292 overseas Filipino workers from Lebanon, although their arrival in Manila, earlier scheduled on Friday, was further delayed yesterday.

Anticipating their arrival, Arroyo said in a prepared statement, "I join an anxious and expectant nation in welcoming the first batch of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) returning home from Lebanon."

"As they reunite with their families, we continue to be focused on the plight of those left behind whom we must attend to with relentless action on all fronts," Arroyo promised.

From Damascus, the 292 OFWs waited for a chartered Emirates Airlines flight. The Philippine government paid $300,000 for the chartered flight.

Earlier, Filipino diplomats, led by Roy Cimatu, special envoy to the Middle East, tried to look for a substitute aircraft all Friday night until yesterday. They had to obtain overflight permission from five countries en route to Manila.

Cimatu said he and members of his team remained sleepless, adding that they would not put their guard down as they faced a daunting job of evacuating a very large number of OFWs.

Bwahaha!!! sooo...TEXT-ish this article!!!

but in fairness, English is easier than French!

and... American-English is easier than British/English-English (Victorian English)!

Mum, you know what...I've always argued w/ my British friends re: proper English (such as spelling, verb agreement, etc.). They always say "why question us when English is our very own native language?!" Bollocks! You know what I say to them?..."oh yeah, but we, the Americans have perfected your English!"
