The Soul Siren and the ''Tearjerker''
We invited Nina and Josh Santana, who represented the Philippines in the WSC editions 05 ( Nina ) and 06 ( Josh ), for a short, but hilarious, interview in Cebu City. Nina achieved a 20th position in 05 with the soulful ballad 'Love Moves In Mysterious Ways' and Josh took his turn in 06 with the tearjerker ballad 'Hindi Ko Kaya' ( I Can't ). Just like every edition the Filippino people hope that the entry they sent in will achieve a good score. Too bad this wasn't the case in their editions.
Good evening Nina and Josh! How are things going for both of you?
Nina: Pretty good, I did alot of performances around the country and I recieved a few awards for my album Nina Live!.
Josh: I'm good as well, doing my own thing, presenting and performing. [laughs]
You both represented the Philippines in the WSC. Both performing ballads and achieving a not so quite good position. What were your feelings back then?
Josh: They were pretty good actually. My edition was tough and I wasn't depressed at all about the results. It felt good to sing my song on the stage.
Nina: Of course you'll feel a little dissappointed after the results, cause you're representing your own country and you want to get a result as high as possible. But that's the game right? Some will win and some will fail [laughs]
That's right. But the positions of the Philippines aren't any getting better. Can you explain why our humble country keeps ending up outside the top 10 and not ending up as gloriously as Piolo in WSC 04?
Nina: You know, I have absolutely no idea! [laughs]
Josh: Maybe people don't like our songs?
Nina: No Josh, people didn't like your song [pokes Josh and starts laughing]
Josh: [laughs] No, maybe the songs we sent in were good, but not good enough to end up in the top 10.
Now, Now Nina. You're in a happy mood today.
Nina: I know! [laughs again]
Josh, your song stranded in the semi-finals in WSC 06. After 06 the semi-finals were removed and a Qualifying round was used to let the Final go in an 'honest' way. If the Qualifying round was already in use during WSC 06, do you think that you'd have qualified for the Final?
Josh: I don't know, maybe not. In the end, I ended up last from all the countries, so I guess I wouldn't qualify afterall
Nina: No Josh, really. People didn't like your son
