Summer Or Early Fall
05/01/2006 4:00 PM, Yahoo! Music
LAUNCH Radio Networks
Christina Aguilera has moved the release date of her new album, Back To Basics, to late summer or early fall, according to MTV.com. Although she hasn't revealed much about the material, her primary producers said that fans should expect songs that takes a different approach to honoring past eras. Linda Perry, a producer on the disc, added, "It's a very mature, very risky album of old-school jazzy blues. You're gonna think that these songs were recorded and written back in 1940."
Nas makes a guest appearance on the song "Still Dirrty," and Outkast's Big Boi is recording a verse for the remix of the first single, "Ain't No Other Man." Aguilera just shot a video for the song this past weekend.
Aguilera's last album, Stripped, was released in 2002.

Back to Basics is the third full-length original studio English-language album from American pop singer Christina Aguilera. It has been confirmed on her official website that the album will be released August 15, 2006 in the United States. According to Amazon.co.uk, the album will be released officially on August 14, 2006, in the United Kingdom and other parts of Europe. It will be released first on August 11, 2006, in Germany.
Album information
Christina Aguilera has transformed her image and musical style with every album. With the new Back to Basics album, her musical style has changed from the urban and light rock sounds of Stripped to a soulful and jazz-inspired album. Aguilera has described her upcoming album as a soul record combining elements of 1920s, '30s and '40s blues and jazz with modern day influences.[2] The album's title was confirmed in the March issue of Rolling Stone magazine, and Aguilera was featured in a cover story of ELLE UK magazine confirming her work with producers Mark Ronson and P. Diddy. The record finds her working with hip-hop producers DJ Premier, Kwame and Ronson for the first time. It will also find her working with Linda Perry, who worked with Aguilera on Stripped (2002). In February 2006 at MTV's TRL Awards, she previewed three unmastered tracks from the upcoming album including "Candy Man" and "Back to Basics".
The first single from the album is "Ain't No Other Man", which was also previewed on the show and debuted within the top twenty on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 after its release (it leaked onto radio and the internet on June 1, causing Sony BMG to release the song as a single several days early). The video for the first single was shot in Los Angeles in early May, and premiered on June 21 on MTV. "Ain't No Other Man" is accompanied by sampled horn blasts, percussion, and hip-hop styled, old-school beats, courtesy of DJ Premier. Also in May 2006 Pepsi released a commercial in which Aguilera performs the song "Here to Stay" alongside Lebanese singer Elissa (who sings her then-current single "Bastanak"). Christina also filmed the commercial with Korean pop singer Rain. Rain sings the song "Go Forward" along side Christina. Christina will also be on a duet.with P.Diddy on "Tell Me",which as stated in MTV's TRL to be Christina Second single off "Back to Basics". Back to Basics is a double-CD. The first CD will be a throwback album with 20's elements. The second CD will be only songs Aguilera did with Linda Perry. "There are no samples - It's all live music", Aguilera said.[3] The album includes a continuation of Stripped's "Dirrty", with a song called, "Still Dirrty"; Nas is featured on the track. DJ Premier explained how different that version is to its 2002 predicessor; "It's more jazz-sampled with these horn blasts." Outkast's Big Boi will also have a rap on the remix version of "Ain't No Other Man".[4]

Rollingstone Review of Back to Basics
Despite Christina Aguilera's claim in the new song "Still Dirrty" that she's "still got the nasty" in her, it would be fair to say that the girl in the assless chaps has undergone a serious de-skankification since her 2002 album Stripped. Perhaps it was inevitable: She married a nice Jewish guy, overhauled her style, kept it low-pro for a couple of years and re-emerged looking like a 2006 Lana Turner in Christian Louboutin pumps.
For her third studio album, Back to Basics, Aguilera demonstrates that the fetish extends beyond her wardrobe. The spirit of old-school jazz, blues and soul inhabits the set, which is divided into two discs: a collection of modern, beat-driven tunes and another rendered with only analog equipment, recorded live and sans samples. Aguilera succeeds in balancing references to jazzbos and soul singers -- horns, gospel choirs, the sound of a dusty old vinyl album -- with over-the-top kitsch. At the top of the list of Disc One's killers is "Ain't No Other Man" -- a zoot-suit riot of a song that, like all the best stuff on Disc One, was produced by DJ Premier. On the Linda Perry-produced Disc Two, the prize goes to the creaky Bessie Smith-sounding "I Got Trouble" and a burlesque vamp called "Nasty Naughty Boy." Then there's "Candyman," which may be a dead rip-off of the Andrews Sisters' "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," but it's fun to hear Aguilera play all three Andrewses and max out on coy naughtiness in her delivery of lyrics such as "He's a one-stop shop/Makes the panties drop."
When it works, Back to Basics raises the hope that Xtina fans everywhere might go digging through crates of vinyl LPs to track down the artists she references. When it fails -- as on the incongruous schmaltzfest "Hurt" and the done-me-wrong song "F.U.S.S.," the collection is overindulgent and self-important, proving that twenty-two songs is about ten too many for Aguilera. At one disc, this would have been nothing short of masterful.
